Key challenge
Maximising greening performance while providing realistic conditions for each measure
Outcome
UGF score of 0.32, exceeding the stated target of 0.3

UGF masterplan & UGF calculation
What Mattered
The assessment needed to demonstrate that the proposed scheme could meet and exceed the GLA UGF target of 0.3 for commercial developments. The challenge was not simply to maximise the calculated score, but to establish a credible relationship between the proposed greening measures, their spatial requirements and the score presented to the local authority.
What Changed
Landscape Ally coordinated the distribution of urban greening measures across the site and assessed the conditions needed to support their contribution. Particular attention was given to proposed trees, ensuring that rooting zones were maximised to support the higher tree score within the calculation. This balanced greening performance with a pragmatic, deliverable landscape response.
Why It Helped
The UGF Masterplan and Calculation provided a clear rationale for the achieved score of 0.32. By linking the calculation to the proposed landscape arrangement and the conditions required for each greening type, the assessment strengthened the planning-stage evidence and made the basis of the score easier to understand and review.
Greening distribution
The UGF Masterplan identifies the distribution of urban greening measures across the site and their relationship to the proposed landscape.
Calculated performance
The calculation demonstrates an achieved UGF score of 0.32 against the stated target of 0.3.
